Will's Tech Korner: The H: Drive

Monday, March 21st, 2011 (All day)

Will Ireland
There is a new service available to students at Kish this semester: the “H:” drive.  The H drive is a network drive available to all current students and faculty with a KishID.  It allows students to store academic related files on the Kishwaukee College campus.  The H: drive can be accessed from any computer on campus, whether it be a Mac or PC.  It cannot be accessed off campus, however.  Each student is given 50MB of storage.  This is plenty of room for Microsoft Office documents, such as papers and notes.  All data stored on the H: drive is secure and individual to students.  This means that only you can access your files.  It is also backed up, so if something goes wrong, such as a hard drive crash, no data is lost.  Nathan Stein, a support specialist in the IT department said, “[the H: drive] is a safer alternative to something like a flash drive.”  After logging in with your KishID, the H: drive can be accessed by clicking “My Computer” and choosing the network drive ending in “(H:\)”.

If you ever encounter a problem using the H; drive, you may contact the helpdesk at (815) 825-2086 ext. 4357, or room A360.  For more information about the H: drive, visit http://bit.ly/gv0Yuh
